Messenger site to shut down this April

Desktop users will no longer be able to access ‘‘Messenger[.]com’ website this Apr. 15, 2026, Meta announced yesterday, Feb. 17.

According to reports, the stand-alone Messenger website will officially discontinue its interface, marking the latest step in Meta’s effort to streamline its messaging ecosystem.

Once the shutdown takes effect, users attempting to access the website will be automatically redirected to Facebook’s messaging page.

Meta said users can still access their conversations via Facebook[.]com/messages on web browsers or through the mobile Messenger application in IOS and Android.

The move follows the earlier discontinuation of the Messenger desktop application for Windows and Mac, which officially unplugged its services on Dec. 15, 2025.
