Palace dismissed rumored impeachment plan vs Marcos

Malacanang Palace on Sunday, via Press Officer Claire Castro, addressed an alleged impeachment plan against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. when the House resumes sessions in February, calling it a “political maneuvering” set up by a “group of supporters.”

The palace released a statement in response to House Senior Deputy Minority Leader and Caloocan 2nd District Representative Edgar Erice’s disclosure regarding individuals reaching out to him for an impeachment complaint endorsement.

“At this point, these are unsubstantiated statements allegedly coming from the supporters of a certain politician,” Castro reiterated.

Moreover, the press officer also assured that the president acknowledges the Congress’s role in the current constitutional processes.

“…[he] believes that any actions taken by the members of the Congress will be driven by facts, the law, and national interest,” Castro added.

Although Rep. Erice did not name any lawmakers who had asked him to endorse, he added that the endorsement against Marcos would contain betrayal of public trust over claimed budget neglect as its main grounds for impeachment.

“Actually, nakikita ko kung may impeachable offense ang Presidente, ‘yung betrayal of public trust. Kasi for three years, pinabayaan niya ‘yung budget natin na masala-ula, na hindi siya kumibo. That’s stunt amount to inexcusable gross negligence,” he said.

Recently, the talks on impeachment have been fueled by an alleged impeachment complaint by the Makabayan bloc will again be filed against Vice President Sara Duterte on the House’s continuation of session in February.

Despite the revelations, however, Erice confirmed that he is “uncertain” on his stance regarding the issue.
