UPM professor receives Diploma of Fellowship in Malaysia

Dr. Nemencio A. Nicodemus Jr., chairperson of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the University of the Philippines, was awarded a Diploma of Fellowship for his contributions to the Southeast Asian country.

Along with Dr. Nicodemus, 18 other physicians from Singapore, India, Hong Kong, and Australia, who were recognized as Academicians in the Field of Medicine for their expertise in clinical service, scholarship, and leadership, were also recognized by the Academy of Medicine Malaysia.

The ceremony on August 22 was headlined by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Nicodemus is also a professor at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. 

He took on his residency training in Internal Medicine and subspecialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at UP-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).

“This recognition is not an isolated honor but one that builds upon a continuing tradition of international respect,” said Nicodemus.

The professor shared that the measurements by contribution to the medical community are what young doctors should prioritized as “success”

He also received two other international honorary fellowships, one from the Indonesian Society of Internal Medicine and another from the College of Physicians Malaysia earlier this year. 

“UP Manila continues its mission to produce physicians who are not only competent clinicians but also thought leaders in health,” he said.
