USJ-R sweeps Miss Cesafi crowns; SRCDC rallies for debut win
Cebu’s schools ushered in the 26th edition of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) as the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) swept the Miss CESAFI crowns while debutant San Roque College de Cebu (SRCDC) pulled off a comeback victory at the Cebu Coliseum, Aug. 29.
Colorful performances from dance groups representing different schools welcomed the San Roque College de Cebu (SRCDC) Greyhounds and Paref Springdale Titans in the high school, officially marking the opening of the new CESAFI season.
USJ-R then took center stage as the Jaguars captured both Miss CESAFI titles, with Lilia Amapola Buhat winning the college division and Paula Mae Fernandez taking the high school crown.
Buhat also received the “Miss Globe” award, joining Fernandez as USJ-R’s latest pair of double champions since 2024, when the University of San Carlos previously achieved the feat.
SRCDC Greyhounds then shifted the action to the basketball court, erasing a 21-point halftime deficit to stun the Paref Springdale Titans,62–59 opener, in their high school debut match at 6:15 p.m.
Anthony Ross Luche, bagging 17 points with a double-double in rebounds and block, spearheaded the final charge of SRCDC to secure a comeback.
