We’ll get married in our heads

In our heads, this relationship of ours has already crossed the finish line — the ultimate end goal that all couples, old and new, chase after.

It’s the fairy-tale ending we see in movies: the crowd erupting in cheers, everyone in awe of us, our love sealed forever under a shower of confetti and applause.

That is the dream. The dream of marrying you, of seeing you radiant in all your glory, surrounded by the people we cherish most as they witness us become one.

To stand before them and exchange our vows, to slip rings onto each other’s fingers, promising eternity — it’s what I want for us. What I ache for us to be.

But alas, perhaps that cinematic ending isn’t meant for us. Or maybe we aren’t as compatible as we pretend, our fantasies crumbling under the weight of reality’s quiet truths.

Still, in the back of my mind, we’ll always say “I do.” and you’d be the love of my life until my last breath is taken away from me.
