Benilde Model United Nations (BenildeMUN), the largest and pioneering Philippine Collegiate MUN, held its 27th MUN conference on February 26-28, diving deep into the global nexus of sustainability anchored in global discourse to shape aspiring leaders and changemakers through multilateral perspectives.

BenildeMUN and AirAsia Philippines co-represented the conference with a theme, “Reenvisioning the Global Nexus of Sustainability through Homogenizing Multilateral Narratives,” complemented with AirAsia’s brand campaign, “LFG! Let’s Fly and Go!”

The 3-day conference involved transformative discussions and an intellectually stimulating atmosphere. With drums and experimental dances, the conference commenced, welcoming the BenildeMUN delegates and guests.

On the first day, guest speaker H.E. Smiljana Knez, ambassador from Slovenia, presented climate diplomacy and how diplomatic connections can address the global climate crisis. Hon. Leila Lora-Sontas, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, also gave a speech on the youth’s role for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Lastly, Prof. Ferdinand Francis Hermoso, Assistant Professor of Department of Geography at University of the Philippines-Diliman explored the courageous and willingful action for a sustainable future.

The conference continued with its committee sessions on the second day, where Atty. Antonio Gabriel La Viña, Executive Director, The Manila Observatory, delivered his speech on United Nation’s challenges for climate justice. Following this keynote address, the committee facilitated a panel discussion on pressing sustainability topics, such as Philippine climate vulnerability, disaster risk reduction management, and climate leadership, emphasizing the importance of establishing Philippines’ long-term sustainability and climate adaptability.

The 27th BenildeMUN’s third day involved the Diplomatic Soirée, a ceremony where delegates were awarded with Best Position Paper, Verbal Commendation, and Most Outstanding Delegate awards.

BenildeMUN ended its 27th edition with performances, prestigious awards, and appreciation, aspiring to resume its legacy of transformative and global discourse through a 28th BenildeMUN next year.
