Eala climbs to career-high World No. 28 after historic Wimbledon run

Alex Eala served the Philippines a sweet taste of national pride following her historic Wimbledon campaign, but the icing on the cake came days later, as the Filipina ace soared to her highest career ranking to give the Philippines a sense of deja vu pride.

The Filipina tennis ace continued to pay her dividends as she rose to a career-high World No. 28 in the latest WTA rankings after her dream run at the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships, writing another historic milestone in the Philippine tennis books, July 13.

Eala became the first Filipina to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon and propelled her four places higher from her World No. 32 position, which she set in March.

Her biggest victory in the tournament was when she dethroned World No. 3 Iga Swiatek in the third round after completing her redemption arc over Renata Zarazua and Maya Joint.

But her dream grass-court run came to a halt as she fell to the hands of World No. 15 Jasmine Paolini 6–4, 4–6, 6–3.

After the breakthrough, the tennis star returned to the Philippines to finally have a well-deserved break.

With all the triumphs behind her, Eala now turns her attention to the highly anticipated Washington DC Open in the United States later this July, where she will try to bring pride once again to the nation.
