FALSE: PBBM supporters extend support amidst flooding trash

A post is circulating online, showing alleged supporters of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos in pink continuously extending support to the president amidst flooding trash.

CLAIM:

The post allegedly shows that PBBM supporters in pink continue to support the president amidst the flooding trash beneath the feet of the supporters.

“Bayaran talaga na mga loyalist, binaha na nga loyalist pa rin,” the post authors state in their caption.

The post shows people submerged in knee-deep trash whilst holding placards that show the quote “BBM pa rin ang suporta.”

CONCLUSION:

The post turns out to have been made using generative AI to allegedly slander the ‘pink political group’ and deface them. It wasn’t made for factual dissemination. Rather, it was made to satirically slander the group.

THE FACTS:

• The post was positioned to send out false, sensational news that may emotionally sway viewers due to the overexaggeration of the image
• The image cannot be found on other platforms and doesn’t come from a legitimate source
• The image appears to be showing a recent incident in Parañaque City where the city recently hauled over 750 metric tons (more than 200 truckloads) of garbage from the Redemptorist Water Channel in Baclaran following heavy monsoon rains. But no images found on the internet can be traced back to the picture, giving more clues that it is AI-generated.

THE BOTTOMLINE:

Contrary to circulating posts online, there has been no event where supposed PBBM supporters in pink have shown active support to the president amidst being submerged in flooding trash. In reality, the images from circulating posts online are AI-generated and were used to slander and deface the ‘opposing pink group’, a political party that the original poster is actively against.
