FALSE: Davao del Norte flyover as the longest PH flyover

A circulating Facebook post from the page Ren the Adventurer featured a series of drone shots of the Tagum City Flyover in Davao del Norte, citing it as the longest flyover in the country.

CLAIM: 

The post claimed that the 1.035 stand-alone flyover is the longest among its structure type in the country.

CONCLUSION:

The longest flyover in the country with measured basis is the Kalayaan Flyover in Metro Manila, while official records state that the Davao del Norte flyover is the longest only in Visayas and Mindanao.

THE FACTS:

• The Tagum City flyover, opened in November 2021, was officially recognized by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as the longest flyover in Mindanao.
• As it was only formally established as Mindanao’s longest structure of its type, the Kalayaan flyover is still longer, being 1.5 km, while the latter is only 1.035 km.
• Structures such as the Metro Manila Skyway stage may also be mistaken for a flyover; however, they are classified as expressway viaducts.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

The main caption of the post immediately baits many netizens into believing the news, but it also fails to look into deeper research on the other flyovers in the country.
