The Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) expressed their honor, remembrance, and reflection for their lost ones in observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
At the Puerto Princesa City Jail, inmates created handmade candles and flower arrangements, showing their creativity behind bars.
Meanwhile, at Roxas District, they gathered with candles and offered prayers for their departed loved ones.
BJMP MIMAROPA Spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo, in a news release on Oct. 31, shared the reason behind these activities among the inmates, serving the solemnity of the observance despite being in detention state.
“Even behind these walls, their prayers carry the warmth of love and the ache of longing for those they have lost. In every whispered prayer, no soul is ever truly forgotten,” he said.
These activities, according to Anglo, were initiated to ‘provide spiritual support and foster personal reflection among PDLs’, forming the space for familial bonds and personal well-being within the jail compound.
“Even in confinement, they find light… These small acts of remembrance remind them that love, faith, and hope cannot be imprisoned,” he added.
For the PDLs, Undas goes beyond the physical visit in respective cemeteries as it strengthens their connection and spirituality for the souls of the loved on
