Carlo Biado marks history as he dethrones Fedor Gorst in World Pool Championship

Shaken but not stirred, Filipino pool maestro Carlo Biado dethroned the defending champion Fedor Gorst in a hard-fought 15-13 victory in the World Pool Championship title, becoming the first Filipino to win a second title in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on July 27 (Philippine time).

Biado, who first won the prestigious nine-ball championship in 2017 in Qatar, has now become the first Filipino to capture a second world title, cementing his place in the sport’s elite.

In a post-game interview, he expressed his delight in possessing the title

“I’m over the moon—I still can’t believe I’m a two-time world champion. It means everything to me. I’m so proud to bring this trophy home to the Philippines,” said Biado.

“This final is something I’ll remember forever. Fedor is one of the best in the world,” he added.

While the defending champion established an early 2-0 advantage, the Pinoy pride’s composure surged, turning the tables around to not only level the score but also ramp up a commanding 9-2 upset.

Meanwhile, Gorst refused to lie down and die, taking advantage of Biado’s costly errors to evaporate his 7-round advantage in just a blink.

With both players tied at 13-all, Biado’s poise sealed the final two rounds of the tilt to pull off a 15-13 triumph.

With this victory, Biado joins the ranks of Filipino pool legends Efren “Bata” Reyes (1999), Ronnie Alcano (2006), and Francisco “Django” Bustamante (2010) as multiple-time world champions.
