Filipino shuttlers Mika De Guzman and Jewel Albo established dominance during the 2025 FELET Vietnam International Series, securing podium finishes in their respective divisions in Bac Ninh province, Vietnam on Nov. 2.

De Guzman saw her Vietnam skid come to a halt in the semifinals, settling for bronze in the women’s singles, while Albo went the extra mile to grace himself with a hard-fought silver despite falling in the men’s singles finals.

The fourth-seeded De Guzman maintained perfect form throughout the main draw until eighth-seeded Thai Tonrug Saeheng pulled off an upset.

After dropping a tight first set in overtime, De Guzman ran out of steam in the next two frames, 20-22, 21-14, 21-11.

Meanwhile, University of the Philippines standout Albo caught fire in the men’s bracket, sweeping Malaysia’s second-seeded Zhen Yi Ong in the quarterfinals, 21-17, 21-18.

However, his run ended in the finals, where top-seeded Viet Duc Phat Le proved too much, rallying to win 15-21, 21-13, 21-12.

The two Filipino shuttlers’ medal triumphs add to the Philippines’ much-needed momentum swing on the international stage as the nation prepares for the highly anticipated SEA Games 202 in Thailand from Dec. 9-20.
