Ginebra repeats 2022 award haul as Abarrientos, Brownlee bag PBA top honors

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel matched its award success from the 2022 Commissioner’s Cup, as RJ Abarrientos captured the Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award, while Justin Brownlee secured the Best Import plum in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum, June 10.

The prized duo of the Barangay received their individual nods before Game 4 of the Gin Kings-Tropang 5G clash.

Abbarientos continued the legacy of his uncle, Johnny Abarrientos, by claiming his first BPC award after amassing a total of 1,147 points in the voting.

The guard bested NLEX ace Robert Bolick and San Miguel wunderkind June Mar Fajardo as media and player votes propelled Abarrientos to his first ever BPC achievement.

Bolick finished first runner-up with 804 points, while Fajardo rounded the podium with 573 points.

Meanwhile, Brownlee dominated in all aspects as he notched the top votes from stats, media, and players to gain 1284 points and seize his fourth Best Import award.

The Ginebra forward cemented his dominance as the 38-year-old stalwart broke his own record of 36 and became the oldest player to receive the Best Import award.

E-Painters’ import Jaylen Johnson nabbed second place behind Brownlee with 888 points, while TNT replacement import Chris McCullough had 690 points to complete the top three.
