NU Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs stay unbeaten with sweeps of Adamson

The National University (NU) men’s and women’s volleyball teams kept their unbeaten runs intact after sweeping Adamson in the UAAP Season 88 Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Feb. 18 at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The defending champions NU Bulldogs catapulted on their championship pedigree to tackle the Adamson Soaring Falcons via an effortless 25–13, 25–18, 25–15 victory.

While the Soaring Falcons opened their Season 88 campaign with a five-set victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles, they couldn’t keep their pace, as the Bulldogs proved to be too strong for Adamson.

The Bulldogs leaned on the steady production of Buds Buddin, Leo Ordiales and Jade Disquitado, breaking the match open in the third set with a decisive 8–2 surge that turned a tight exchange into a comfortable 16–8 cushion.

NU never looked back, as Buddin and Ordiales delivered back-to-back finishing blows through a block and a cross-court strike to seal the straight-sets win.

Ordiales led the charge with 16 points built on 11 attacks, three blocks and two aces, along with three excellent digs.

Buddin added 15 points on 12 attacks and three aces while tallying 10 excellent receptions, and Disquitado chipped in 11 markers and five excellent receptions.

NU next faces Far Eastern University on Feb. 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Lady Bulldogs dominate ex-teammate showdown

Meanwhile, in the women’s division, the battle of ex-teammates was a show in the ladies’ division as the Sam Cantada-led Bulldogs swept the Nitura-led Lady Falcons with another straight-set victory, 25–23, 25–19, 28–26, to improve to 2–0.

Getting the better of her former high school teammates, Cantada showed no mercy, erupting for 16 points off 13 attacks, two service aces, a rejection, along with nine excellent receptions and five digs, to keep their hot start alive.

After the grueling third set chaos, Cantada shared her improvements compared to her high school experience.

Continuing their streaky start, the three-peat seeking Bulldogs will try to keep their pace as they face the Lady Tamaraws this Feb. 21.
