Philippine figure skaters fall short of Winter Olympic berths at Beijing qualifier

All four Filipino entries fell short of earning quota spots for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics at the ISU Skate to Milano Figure Skating Qualifier in Beijing, September 21.

The final Olympic qualifying event offered the last 17 available berths: five each in men’s and women’s singles, four in ice dance and three in pair skating. 

The top finishers secured quota places for their National Olympic Committees.

Paolo Borromeo led the Philippine contingent in men’s singles but placed 22nd with 158.46 points, well outside the top five needed for a quota.

In women’s singles, Maxine Bautista finished 21st, scoring 117.09 points as Adeliia Petrosian of the neutral athletes group topped the field with 209.63.

Pair skaters Isabella Gamez and Aleksandr Korovin ended 11th with 133.69 points. Only the top three pairs advanced, led by China’s Jiaxuan Zhang and Yihang Huang at 191.52.

The Philippines had no entry in ice dance, where Lithuania, Australia, Spain and China claimed the four Olympic spots.

The qualifier concluded the Olympic figure skating selection process. National Olympic Committees will now choose their athletes from the quota places their countries earned for the Milano-Cortina Games.
