Wong, Palisoc dominate Makati Speedcubing Open with podium hauls

Philippine Championship 2024 and 2025 winners Brenton Wong and Inigo Palisoc dazzled with multiple podium finishes at the Makati Speedcubing Open V 2025 held at SM Makati on Oct. 12.

The Makati Open, an official part of the World Cube Association (WCA) circuit, hosted 68 speedcubers from across the country, including hopefuls from neighboring nations.

Wong rebounded from his third-place finish at last month’s 3x3x3 event in the same series, posting a lone six-second average to claim the top podium in the competition’s main category.

He bested Aragon Martin Gonzales, the Cavite Speedcubing Open XII 2025 3×3 cube champion, who finished second with a 7.26-second average, while Robbie Villarica placed third with 7.92 seconds.

Wong also mirrored his comeback in the 2x2x2 cube as he outpaced James Certeza, the 2×2 winner of the previous Makati Open IV, where Wong placed fifth—denying Certeza’s 1.86-second average with a swift 1.51-second performance for the top spot.

Gonzales rounded out the 2×2 podium with a sub-two-second average.

Ever dominant in the 5x5x5 cube since his reign as Philippine Nationals champion, Palisoc clocked the only 40-second average to lead the category.

The Bataan standout beat Richmond Mico Rigor, the Cabalen Cubing Fest 2025 5×5 champion, who placed second with a 50.42-second average, while Villarica followed with 53.98 seconds.

Palisoc, the 7x7x7 cube national record-holder from the 2025 Rubik’s Cube World Championship, showed consistency by ruling the class again with a 2:17.28 mean.

Rigor tallied 2:26.99, while Louie Jay Quibote placed third at 2:38.62.

Reflecting his victory at the 3x3x3 One-Handed Visayas Championship 2025, Palisoc also captured first place in the Makati event with an 11.66-second average, ahead of Gonzales (12.33) and Wong (14.19).
