MISLEADING: Sara Duterte purchasing P100K worth of vibrators in Japan

Reeve DiazFact check18 minutes ago

Several Facebook posts that gained online engagement stated that Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte, also named as ‘Don Quijote,’ bought ₱100 thousand worth of vibrators in Shibuya, Japan.

CLAIM:

The post claimed that Sara Duterte made this ₱100K purchase of stimulators, while it pinpointed her as “Don Quijote”.

RATING: MISLEADING

CONCLUSION:

Although Duterte has a history of a monetary sum linked to Shibuya, Japan, there is neither evidence nor record that the money was used for a vibrator purchase, and the post falsely labels her with the name “Don Quijote”.

THE FACTS:

  • The term “Don Quijote” comes from the iconic Japanese discount store chain, which has several branches, including in Shibuya, Japan.
  • During her impeachment trial on October 9, a financial forensic analyst flagged two separate credit card purchases summing up to around ₱120,000 from a Don Quijote branch in Shibuya.
  • There have been no reports on the specified details of these purchases.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

The post misleads netizens into believing that the existing discrepancy is purely because of the vibrators.
