A circulating quote card on Facebook and TikTok shows a statement by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last June 1 in Malacanang Palace, saying that the Filipinos voted for him in the last 2022 Philippine elections because he carries the Marcos last name, not because he is a Duterte.

THE FACTS

There are several variations of the said quote card circulating around the two mentioned platforms and has garnered a whopping ‘Haha’ and ‘Angry’ reactions from netizens on Facebook, particularly from supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Duterte supporters on Facebook and TikTok have claimed that Marcos’ landslide win in the 2022 Philippine elections was only because of his alliance with Duterte, the UniTeam alliance, and not because of his family’s last name.
Vice President Duterte is currently on a political rift with President Marcos, but has denied having a personal conflict with the President.
In an online video conference last November 2024, Duterte particularly mentioned these statements: “‘Wag kang mag-alala, Ma’am, sa security ko. Kasi, may kinausap na ako na tao. Sinabi ko sa kanya, “Kapag pinatay ako, patayin mo si BBM, si Liza Araneta, at si Martin Romualdez. No joke. No joke.” This particular statement is currently utilized as evidence in the Vice President’s ongoing impeachment trial, with the statement wholly constituting Article IV (Grave Threats).
In the first episode of President Marcos’ podcast last May 2025, the President opened a possibility of reconciling with the Vice President amid their tensions, stressing the importance of unity and stability in the government. “I’m always open to any approach na, ‘Halika, magtulungan tayo,’ ‘di ba? Kahit na hindi tayo magkasundo sa polisiya […] Gawin mo ’yong trabaho pero huwag na tayong nanggugulo,” Marcos expressed.
